        At the end of this program SVL, there are several benefits that I had gained. One of those is, how to interact with the upper class when wanting to conduct an interview. Apart from that, I can also enhance my skills in doing group assignments/works to succeed & launch the program smoothly during this pandemic season.  Not to forget, I can also learn a lot of new interesting knowledge about cow’s milk management in the dairy farm such as what factors help cow farms to produce high-quality fresh milk, what are the cleanliness measure in manufacturing milk & what is the awareness in choosing dairy milk product.

    Hormones or steroids given by injection or beverage to livestock to accelerate the growth, can contribute to a carcinogenic effect that causes cancer to the public. The use of vitamins alone can not automatically fatten the cow, even more in a short time. Many people do not know that vitamins and steroids are two different entities and the way for us to identify what is injected into a cow, is only through an examination by the authorities. Fattening of cattle depends on the main food, namely forage such as fresh grass, hay, silage and some breeders use concentrates such as oil palm. Besides, vitamins and minerals are important and have many roles in the body of animals including cell function, immune system, nervous system, muscle function, normal growth and reproduction. From the questionnaire through the interview, I obtained a new knowledge about the effects of hormone injection used and I even made a study on this injection, it turns out that any use of hormone injections or growth enhancers to livestock for commercial purposes is prohibited in Malaysia. The approach for the purpose of accelerating growth, in order to make a profit in the short term, violates the provisions of the  Akta Makanan Haiwan 2009 (Akta 698).

        Moreover, I also improve my skill in communicating with the community to distribute & encourage them to answer our questionnaire survey. Thus, this allowed me to acquire the knowledge and skills to learn and develop through thoughtfully organized community activities and have an opportunity to obtain an in-depth understanding of the value and impact of my work. Education has the potential to be adventurous and exciting. Students need initiative methods to learn. Therefore, different and varied learning styles, coupled with reflection, give students the opportunity to absorb the real effects. Students want to feel important and that what they are doing is making a difference. Community activities through this SVL program have made this difference to me.

 

        Not to forget, the one who did a lot of contributions for me and my group members, the Director who coordinated this program --- Dr. Chung Hung Hui. He gave a lot of guidance in working hard to make the SVL program a success. In my opinion, this SVL program should be continued & maintained in the future of the younger generation to produce first-class human beings who deepen their understanding to be civilized with society.

        

    

During Service Visit Learning

During 4 weeks of SVL, what the 1st step my group did is spread our questionnaire survey via WhatsApp, Facebook & Instagram chat to reach our total number of respondents which is 50 each in west and east. Meanwhile, one of the members of our group - Vanessa, has interviewed NS Dairy Farm manager - Madam Nur Najihah Binti Rozzain to collect answers from the interview questionnaire which we have set up on the day in our proposal that had handed to Dr. Chung. Once this process has been successfully launched, my team members (G1C) & I have set a specific free time to discuss what we have gained to identify whether our SVL objectives have been achieved or not.

        In our Zoom Meeting discussion, I have noticed a question mark that has not yet been answered which is - "Do we need to include content about management in East Dairy Farm (Eco Farm Solution) conducted by G1K?" because our big title chosen for SVL is "Management of Milk Processing Cow Milk Farms in East and West Malaysia". Or we just collaborate with G1K for the same title but a different place. After asking the leaders of the G1K group, they are also not sure whether we need to present to make a comparison between East & West or not. My group and I are very worried about that because in case we do not reach the good criteria for presentation, then we will get low marks for presentation which will affect our final exam result. The problems like this arise because of we do not equip with clear information on how to go through the process throughout the SVL and also our 1st experience in dealing with this program. Thus, to be sure & clear, my group (G1C) agreed to ask Dr. Chung to obtain the explanation of the truth.

    After asking Dr. Chung, apparently we need to make a comparison between NS Dairy Farm and Eco Farm Solution. After knowing the truth, we worked hard to share the results between 2 dairy farms to make a comparison during the presentation later. Besides that, my group members also practiced together before our presentation date arrived through Microsoft Team Meeting, to ensure that our presentation run smoothly.

Pre Service Visit Learning

      Hello! My name is Nurjannah Dalilah Bt. Ahmad Halizan (72593) as a Year 2 Biotechnology Resource student in UNIMAS. Subject Animal Biotechnology has instructed students to hold a program called Service Visit Learning (SVL). Since we can't do it face to face due to this pandemic situation, this SVL needs to be extended online. So, my teammates and I from G1C have agreed with G1K to plan to make an investigation comparison on the Management of Milk Production Companies between East and West Malaysia. My teammate and I have agreed to make an interview on the issue at a factory in West Malaysia.

    Milk has a vital role in mammal’s life, right from birth before we start eating solid food. Milk has lots of benefits since the nutrients contained in milk are quite impressive. It is a good source of vitamins, potassium, calcium, proteins, and so on. All of these nutrients are crucial for maintaining both bones and teeth healthy as well as strong. The mechanism behind this is our body depends on these nutrients for the development of stronger bones. This is because it contains complete protein. Raw cow’s milk provides all the standard amino acids, which our body will store then convert into the usable form. About 80% of the protein content in milk is casein that quite stable in the heat but easy to digest. Immunoglobulins are a very complex type of milk protein also known as antibodies which are useful to protect our body from viruses, bacteria, bacterial toxins, and can also help reduce the severity of asthma symptoms.

    Our project begins by finding any peninsula factory that is willing to accept offers for questionnaires through phone call interviews. At first, it was quite difficult to find a factory that matches the criteria with our SVL title. All 5 of my teammates worked hard to find it but many obstacles coming through. For example, some factories only process the milk but do not raise or breeding cattle. Luckily, there is a factory that has agreed to be our interviewee and it is very easy for us to deal with because it just by using WhatsApp phone number to communicate with the factory. This is flexible as we are dealing with someone who at a higher-up party!  We had chosen NS Dairy Farm, one of the well-known farms located in Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan. This farm produces better and good quality milk, 100% freshly from the cows without additions of any preservatives. In 2014, the farm launched its very first product that is flavored milk like strawberry, chocolate, corn, and yam. Aside from that, they also expand their products by adding ice cream, pudding, and yogurt from the cow’s milk. For that reason, it evokes our desire to investigate the management of their factory in producing high-quality fresh milk!

    After all that, we will determine who will interview the factory and who will make the presentation later via the WhatsApp group that we had established. With that, we had also listed a few problem issues and objectives on our topic to be interpreted more in the proposal. To make it more meticulous, we had decided to set a time to finalize the content proposal with all group members (G1C+G1K) through Zoom Meeting & Microsoft Teams so that everyone is clear about what will be done during this SVL program. I am very happy because my teammates all cooperate and come up with brilliant ideas.
